I usually use them for just our vegetable, but we eat a lot more vegetables than we used to. They are also nice for fixing a light meal of meal & veggies. This item consists of 2 pieces: a lid & a base, so the meat is cooked directly on top of the vegetable. I have the larger 4 piece one with the strainers that separate the vegetable from the liquid & the meat from the vegetable. They are easily to clean since silicone can go in the dishwasher. They are very good quality also.

I've used it in steamers too for soup and leftovers. Too bad this was the last one, I'd like to get another one.
