I tried using it for narrower, less fragile scarves and it's been okay. I'm just careful not to drag them across the wood. Asthma required getting rid of my dust-magnet, flocked scarf hangers so I bought 2 more wooden ones. They both have nicely polished holes. Unlike the first one, they each came boxed. Makes me think the first one was a return from someone else worried about snagging. I do wish the holes were larger. A 1" diameter limits the style and size of scarf it is useful for. The unpolished oneI may end up as a belt hangar.
