5.0 out of 5 stars. Fills a niche

Simple light-duty jacket I carry in my hunting pack along with lightweight rain gear. Compresses down to less than half gallon size. Synthetic insulation, so unlike down it de-compresses well and would retain some warmth when wet. Should be good to about 45 if you're completely sedentary but I've been comfortable wearing it in the teens when I'm hiking or climbing. Breathes very well because the shell is so light, but when it's cold and windy I throw a windbreaker over it. Definitely not a super-durable work jacket but perfect for what I'm using it for.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Nice jacket, runs small

Not the jacket for temps in the single digits, but nice for the price and surprisingly warm for it's weight. The two front zipper pockets are pretty good size and hold all my dog walking essentials. Would have also liked an interior pocket but lack of that feature not a deal breaker. Hood is not adjustable, but it has elastic around edge similar to sleeve cuff so it stays on ok. Draw cord at hem. Comes with a little stuff sack. It does run small. I usually wear a medium and had to get this in large.

Very warm and extremely light weight. Was looking for something that didn't use down and this turned out to be a great choice. Very happy with it!

There are many, many better quality natural & synthetic down jackets on the market, but none I've found are able to do what this modestly priced jacket does for anywhere close to the price. Even at full price, these jackets are a reasonable bargain.

Quality of construction is best for occasional use, perhaps as a last-resort option to save you from an unexpected chilly evening or sudden barometric drop...meaning if you decide to opt for daily wear, this may only last you a couple of seasons before busting a few seams.

On the upside, it is very lightweight and very wind resistant if you must wear it as a shell.
Thermal retention is pretty effective if you're moving your body...not so much if you're...let's say, waiting for a bus.

Anyway, if you're looking for an effective, inexpensive thermal "back-up" to keep in your car or pack, look no further !

About Craghoppers

The story behind Craghoppers jackets and apparel began in 1965 when a group of friends from Yorkshire, England started planning a trip to climb Mt. Everest. At the time, options for dependable, high-performance outerwear were pretty scant. Rather than settling for less than adequate gear, the friends decided to create their own, and the Craghoppers clothing company was born. Half a century later, Craghoppers jackets, pants, shorts and shirts are still helping people bag summits and stay comfortable on their adventures all across the globe. With features that range from lightweight, UV-resistant fabrics to Insect Shield® bug repellency, Craghoppers clothing is designed to get outdoors and go places.
