I read other reviews saying they felt cheap, or needed to be washed several times before wearing, but I did not experience this particular problem.

They're okay the fit is alright, but the fabric isn't as soft as a more premium merino wool smartool/wigwam etc.
The condition:
When I received these, the socks were in their (destroyed) packaging, inside of plastic bags. It looked like they had gotten wet and were just stuffed in plastic bags. They smelled horrible (like a production plant), were stained with ink from the cardboard packaging which had all but disintegrated. After removing them from the packing (oh the cardboard dust), I hand washed them in my sink about 8 times with powdered laundry soap and even after 8 bowls full of water, they'd still tint the water grey. At that point I just washed them as normal, thinking I'd gotten most of the crud out of them. It did work, but some of the initial smell still lingers, hopefully that'll eventually go away.
My two stars may sound overly harsh, I'm docking one star for the condition they were in. If they arrived pristine, I'd give them 3 stars, they're pretty average.
I know what we're buying here on STP is typically factory seconds etc., but what I received was probably the dirtiest/cruddiest item I've bought from this site.
They're just socks, it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to return them or whatever, and I'm only one of many many purchases. I couldn't find any other reviews where people mentioned getting socks in the condition mine were in. -

I was looking to get some short, non-cotton socks and I found these. I bought 2 packages with some other socks and items. They're super comfortable, warm without being heavy and absorbent. I have sweaty feet (gross I know) so that was part of why I wanted to get away from cotton. I can't speak to their longevity yet because they're new but I will say I already bought 4 more packs. Hard to beat that price. Hope they hold up.
