The waist is suitably stretchy that the inner tie string is not really needed. Loose enought for any movement. It has a small zipper pocket on one leg that is great for holding a credit card or security card, which is what I use it for in my office gym. It does not have an inner liner which the description sort of misleadingly implies it has. There are thinner more breathable stretchier side strips on each hip. I am 33-34 waist pants and the medium fit great. Length was to my knees and I am 6 feet tall.
