I'm a size 52 chest and according to Carhartt, that was the size they suggested. The quality was typical Carhartt and I hated that I had to return it. But, knowing what I know about the brand, I think an XL Tall would've been a good fit -- or possibly smaller. I wanted a fit where I wouldn't have to layer, like the photo above shows. Keep that in mind if you order one of these.

He loves it. It's true to size as I always order his coats in XL. This jacket can be worn zipped or snapped to close (a plus for my husband). He likes that it is slightly longer in the back which keeps cold air out while he is working outside. I also liked the variation from the normal Carhartt color - this one is black.

Usually medium for original fit and large for relaxed fit items. I wear Large for pretty much every other brand (mediums typically are too tight in the shoulders and too short in the sleeves). Carhartt jackets can be tricky as sometimes they're not labeled as original or relaxed fit. Detroit, Sandstone Sierra, and Steel jackets I wear Large. Armstrong and the hooded sweatshirts I wear Medium. With all that said, I ordered a Large in the Tractor jacket and am very happy with the way it fits. And there's plenty of room for layers without the jacket feeling puffy or oversized. I like it much better than the Detroit jacket (dual draft flaps, more & warmer pockets, cuff detail, hem cord) and at the clearance price from STP, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It's also warmer than the Detroit jacket, but not as warm as the Armstrong - somewhere in between the two, which is perfect.
