They have a quilted lining that is not so warm you can't wear them inside in the winter, but warm enough for outside wear. If you want all day 20 below zero pants these are probably not your pants, but if you want a pair of pants you can wear to work and be indoors sometimes and outdoors other times these are a good bet. Good style, good true to size fit, and a good value with the Sierra discount. They are sized to fit like a regular pair of pants. If you want to wear them over other clothes you should go up a size or 2 accomplish that. They don't really seem made to wear over other clothes. If you want that buy some insulated bibs.
