But when I sit there is no stitch or seam to hold the side together, exposing the length of my thigh. I don't see a DIY fix that would work with the design. Sending it back with regret.

They are not flattering on me but elastic waistbands rarely are. (I am 5'2 & short waisted) I just wear a longer shirt. When sitting down with legs crossed, it can show a little leg. i was sad to change into pjs.
