Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Light and roomy

Was initially wary of the slightly larger legs but found that they were useful during hiking, lending to a greater range of motion and overall comfort. The larger cut is also beneficial because the material is not stretchy.

The front pockets also took some getting used to. They're located on the front of the thigh rather than closer to the side of the leg as with traditional styles.

There is a side pocket that contains a plastic clasp for keys.

The waistband and gusset have a soft lining which I assume is designed to prevent rubbing, if you're prone to it. Either way it's nice.

Overall pretty solid pair of shorts. I wouldn't go out of my way to grab another pair, but they're great if you can get them with an additional discount stacked on top of it.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Mountain Hardware Canyon shorts not what they used to be!

Material is thin. I bought them a little large because I like my shorts baggy. First day straight out of the wrapper they didn't make it half a day before they ripped out at a seam. Sad indeed.

These are excellent, lightweight shorts. I've used this shorts for hiking 14ers, kayaking, climbing, and general use. They dry fast and are comfortable. I like the built-in belt so I don't have to worry about the fit in the waist. These are my favorite summer shorts.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Good shorts for hiking.

The canyon shorts are good for hiking because of the lightweight material and built in belt. It is an easy short to move around in with ample room. They also have plenty of leg room. They do have some downfalls for an all around short. The pockets are big in size but are hard to enter because they are made straight across at top. So if you are walking they fall right in the crease of your leg making it very hard to access. The zipperred pocket is great but a little small. I almost feel they could have made it bigger and made two of them and scrapped the hand pockets. Tge hand pockets are even bad for phones and items. I also thought they werr sized a little small. All my pants are 38 so i ordered large and had to reorder the xl.

For hiking though they are great. Put your keys and phone in your pack and hike on.

Overall great shorts. Just hope they change pockets a bit. Material and comfort are great.
