A bit smaller than I thought but it is perfect and has lots of room and straps. We haven't really used it yet to fully pack etc but it seems really great. I hope it holds up over time but the quality seems really good

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Quality Construction
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Mark the Cyclist from Oregon on Tuesday, November 19, 2019
Pros: First, I own 3 Mountainsmith hip packs (used for skiing and short day hikes), and all exceeding 10 years. And, all l are still in use. All are of the highest quality, and reason I purchased this pack. 10 years of use with my hip packs demonstrates the Mountainsmith quality. Second, I'm 6'2", and this day pack fits perfectly for my torso. Just as comfortable as my old/worn pack (REI) that I'm replacing.
Cons: No criticism on this pack's design as I'm sure it reflects today's ergonomic needs for the modern day hiker. I'm returning this because of my "old habits" created from my old pack (REI. With this pack, the side pockets (one strangely positioned, more horizontal than vertical), and top/side/front zippered main compartment (only zippers on one side) just makes things awkward for me. I'm sure I could get use to it, but will likely replace my pack with similar features that I have on my old/worn pack. It would have been interesting to read why this pack is designed the way it is.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Great pack with tons of room

I upgraded from am 18L CamelBak. This was way more affordable than a similar sized camelbak and I like the fabric. Really rugged. This could work for an overnight pack or ultra light setup.
The frame and pads are nice. It is the older model but if the new ones improved on this design, im sure that would be a great pack too. There isn't much vertical internal storage, just the main compartment, a top compartment, and a stretch pouch. Not many options to store bug spray in an upright, quick to reach location. I ended up putting it in two ziplock bags and stashing it sideways in the belt pouch. Deet ruins fabric, so I would like to see more options for that kind of stuff
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Discription incorrect

The description is incorrect. It is Cordura brand polyester not PET fabric. No rope straps. The horizontal pocket drawstring pocket is weird - mystery what it is for or how it could be used. The waist belt does not pivot - it is sewn in place. IT is top-loading but has a j zipper not a lid/drawstring. There are no fitting instructions sew into the pack, anywhere.

Seems like a future/past year product description. Seems like an ok pack except for mystery pocket and stretchy mesh shovel/helmet. Wish the belt was removable.

I haven't had this pack out on any hikes so my review will be limited. On first sight this is definitely typical Mountainsmith quality that I've come to know from previous Mountainsmith purchases. I can't wait to give it the test.
