Depending on the weather, the different weights of socks help tremendously. I like wearing socks that go over the calf because it's like having extra insulation without having the bulk where women don't want it. I have icebreaker socks, smartwool socks, and I am thinking the icebreakers are a better bang for your buck. Sometimes I thing with smartwool socks, you just pay extra for the name, even though they are nice. Icebreaker socks keep you toasty, and like all wool, they regulate your temperature so you don't get too warm. They come in different weights for different shoes and weather. Can't go wrong unless you are the type of woman that wears dress shoes in winter.

Then I washed them in pretty warm water and dried them on hot. They shrunk just the tiniest bit, but it was enough to make them work out for me!
They are pretty warm for most outdoor sports, but I would not suggest that they be worn if the temperature is in the single digits. Since it doesn't get that cold here, they are perfect for our temperatures.
