5.0 out of 5 stars. Outdoor Research Stormbound Down Jacket (RECCO) Men's X/L

The jacket is remarkable! The color is nifty. I was a bit concerned the outside fabric would be stiff. It is soft and pliable. Like the length and bottom tightner. The weight is like a feather. Fit to a " T". Had thought mine did not contain a bakaclava, but found it in an almost undectable place. The price was excellent $180. Other sites listed as high as $450.Will be a while before weather turns and I can try it out. Expect it will be as advertised. An almost perfect lighter weight Jacket.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Awesome

Just received my Stormbound jacket (actually my second one) Very impressed, good quality and lots of attention to detail. The first one ordered from STP. was selected using the Outdoor Research sizing chart. The size for large are my exact measurements, chest and waist. Unfortunately when it arrived it was massive at least two sizes too big. Living in New Zealand i thought the return and exchange was going to be too hard and too expensive. STP were extremely helpful in organising a return and i cannot thanks them enoughVery happy. Now the jacket, awesome, great fit (got the med) zips appear to be very watertight, pockets big and roomy. Fabric is surprisingly soft to the touch. for a down 650 loft jacket it is very light weight. only complaint is the hood is very big, excellent for use with helmet, but if you aren't wearing one then its huge. Can be adjusted but is still big and feels distorted. But that is my only complaint. Very warm. Actually bought to take to japan at the end of the year so will be interested in how it performs there. Would definitely recommend this jacket. Just check the sizing first.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great Jacket! Great value!

My love for OR products started with one summer cap that I purchased years ago. I am just as impressed with this jacket. I find myself getting very cold at the peak and on chairlifts so warmth without having to over layer was a high priority. Although I have not used this jacket yet I can confirm it is constructed extremely well and will stand the test of time just like the many other OR products I have. As noted in other reviews the cut may not be to everyone's liking as the arms are not tapered and certainly could be slimmer, but not a deal breaker for me. I am 6'0 190 lbs and originally ordered a Large. I liked the length it provided and the fit in the chest as it left generous room for layering. However, the arms were just way too big so I exchanged for a medium which is gives me about an inch less in length and chest but the arm fit is much better. This jacket is very soft and flexible so the medium still provided me with great range of motion. This jacket provides more than enough pockets and I think the Cheddar color is beautiful. I would highly recommend this jacket if warmth is of high importance. Secondly, STP is great! Excellent from order fulfillment to customer service.

Forget what you may have thought about down being too fluffy or not fitting right. This jacket is warm, fits great, and looks better. Love the detachable hood and powder skirt.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
