5.0 out of 5 stars. Black Diamond Equipment Mercury Mittens

I work as a paid patroller in the pacific north west, I always have a pair of these gloves in my gear pack to use when the weather gets really bad and my work does not require a fingered glove. Useless for tying knots but the very best for keeping your hands warm in the worst weather.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Newer isn't better
Reviewed by Anonymous from Smuggler's Notch on Wednesday, January 29, 2014
I have an older version of these without the trigger finger liner that I much prefer. These use better materials but I'm not fond of trigger fingers in mittens. It doesn't offer significantly more dexterity and it's not as warm or comfortable. (personal preference, obviously) BD has had some goofy styling to their product for some time now and these are a good example. There are unnecessary seams all over the shells for no reason other than brand differentiation or "style". Their only saving grace is they're warm. The material used on the back of the thumb intended for "nose wiping" area breaks down quickly and creates a hole in the fabric. The goat skin they used on the palms would've been better utilized instead, as the "nose wipe" doesn't work well anyhow. I do love the generous sizing, however. They definitely have the sizing dialed.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Very Warm Mitts

Even though it has only gotten down to the 20's so far I can already tell these mitts will keep my hands warmer than anything I have tried before. My hands used to freeze whenever it is cold outside. It may be because I have had frost bite before but it actually hurts when my hands get cold. I walk my dog at least 6 times a day and was tired of always having cold hands. These mitts are very comfortable and keep my hands toasty without sweating. I love the very well designed draw cords as I can easily tighten them up to seal them against my coat sleeve. These mitts are the best winter gear I have ever purchased.
