The fleece inside keeps it from being itchy and the ear flaps keep the wind out of your ears. The tassels are for show and not to tie it on, fyi. It isn't the most flattering hat in the world but that's the style.

There will be wet landings and I want to be sure my head stays warm. I have tried it on and it fits well. It is too early in the season to really try it out. I have a Turtle Fur gaiter and love the quality of their products. I had hoped this hat would be fully lined but it is only the head band and ear flaps so we'll see how it performs when winter comes. However, it is wool and I trust the maker so it is likely I will be completely happy when I get it out in the cold and wind.
