Fading NumbersReviewed by Anonymous from SC on Monday, June 29, 2015The plastic is heavy enough to consider the gauge sturdy; my only complaint is the numbers just fade away very quickly, so buying this large-numbered gauge makes it rather useless; you need to pull it up and take a good close look to check the rain accumulation.

I wish it came manufactured on a stake. You have to provide your own post or stake and then drill holes and screw it on. Since it is clear plastic the stake shows thru the back which could make it more difficult to read the water level.

Easy install and the floater inside is easy to see from inside the actual level without going outside. Very handy and happy we got this little guage.

This is our third rain gauge these past 12 months!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Wyrose from KS on Tuesday, April 14, 2015This gauge has large numbers which are easy to read, although if the amount of rain is somewhat minimal, one has to get fairly close to see the water. It works as well as the other exact same gauges. Our problem is that we forget to empty it, which exists of lifting it up, dumping the water and replacing it in the holder. When the water in the gauge freezes hard, it often cracks the gauge which then holds no more water! That's why we have gone through 2 other gauges this last year.

You need to be very careful trying to stake this into the ground, because the plastic spike can break really easy. Once it's broken the only way to use it is to put some kind of band (zip ties) around the gauge to secure it to a post or stake. The numbers are really visible, at least. I suggest only using the base to mount it to a post or pole. It does not come with screws for mounting. The plastic is very brittle.
