5.0 out of 5 stars. Real Leather Boot!

These seem to fit well (no miles yet) and are a well-made, traditional, leather boot, which is getting hard to find. They also do not have a Goretex liner, which is great - the worst (IMHO) application of goretex ever (I've found goretex linings to be hot, they don't breath and they leak out of the box - that would be about 3 pairs worth of experience). Really, how are you going to maintain the integrity of a goretex lining with all the pressure/abrasion of hiking in it, it's a very difficult thing to seal to start with due to the geometry, and you can't wash/maintain the lining (which Gore says you must do to maintain function) - just a dumb idea. A classic leather boot like this, waxed, is much more breathable and more water-proof in my experience.
I have another pair of heavier Hanwag leather boots that have been great for about 15 years and have more years left. These boots are on the heavy-hiking side and pretty robust. I also look for european-manufacture (like these are) - better quality and a better, more-reliable fit than the asian stuff.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Flaws & Blem render boot...

Unsuable due to manufacturing issues. My experience has been over the years, that Hanwag used to be a top-drawer company when they were manufactured in Germany....however, that said, the problems of manufacturing accountability has become somewhat obscured by corporate diversification....now, stating: Made in Eu or Germany, or merely "Made in Europe" can really be most anywhere from many-many facilities...I am sure the point is made. Hopefully, STP may consider the finer points of effective ongoing customer SERVICE in resolving sincere CUSTOMer issues... Boots deserved one star and the other 2 stars for STP in hopes they can render a satisfied customer once again...whew. Bottom line: Unfortunately item needed to bereturned.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. bulky fit

I have a narrow heel, normal width foot with a high instep. This is not the boot for me, too wide around the arch of my foot. Very nice boot that's well made. I'm a size 9 and the length of this boot was good, but again, bulky large fit overall.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Very nice old school boots

I ordered the womens UK 7-1/2, eur 41.5. I normally wear a mens US size 8 or 8-1/2 with a narrow B width. These fit me perfect!
I really like these boots, the fit is very nice, not too tight in the width, but grip the heel snug.
I like the fact that these do not have gore-Tex!!! The leather is breathable, and water resistant.
The quality is very high on these boots.
I also really like the natural stride, instead of the typical clunky Frankenstein foot, that a lot of old school climbing boots have. These have a somewhat rockered sole.
I really like the service , fast shipping, and easy returns that I get from STP, not to mention the great pricing.
