I have a slightly larger version of this that I paid $45 for because I could only get it at a garden store. This one has some neat improvements like a pocket and better size adjustment. If you are in the sun, get this hat! In Phoenix there is no other hat as cool and glare free. The brim has a built-in crack so the hat can be folded nicely, although I can tell you that my old ones put up with a lot of battering and stayed in good shape, so it's an unnecessary refinement. It looks all right though, everything is well made and finished on these Sunday Afternoon hats (have had 4 total, all different models, and it's hard to resist more at this price).

good travel hat, packs nice and quality hat
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. It's the best hat you don't want to wear, but probably should

I've had 4 different hats from sunday afternoons, and this is the best yet. I like the folding bill, as it stores better than my SA adventure hat. It covers my ears, but doesn't muffle sound like my SA convertible cap. It breathes well, and stays on in the wind. The split bill reminds me of a spanish conquistador, which is kind of fun. Yes, it looks kind of dorky, and if you need an effective sunhat that you can backpack/be active with, you've probably accepted this.

This is much lighter and cooler than my Tilley hat, and it provides better sun protection. Function outweighs style in this case.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Keeps the sun off, but funny brim

I appreciate the wide brim that keeps the sun off your ears and sides, but the rear flap could be a bit longer and the brim has a hard fold in the middle that creates an inverted-V. Oveall, a pretty good hat.

I purchased a Sunday Afternoon hat about 10 years ago. It is still going strong. Sadly, the string that holds the hat on your head is already broken - it just fell off one side as I was walking. Also the brim is not as deep. It is light and cool and easily adjusted to fit your head size.

About Sunday Afternoons

The down-to-earth appeal of Sunday Afternoons goes back to its roots in the early '90s, when the small, family-run company set up shop at craft fairs and open-air markets. While selling their dermatologist-approved, sun-blocking apparel, Sunday Afternoons founders kept their ears open to suggestions from their customers—most of whom worked outside in the sun—and applied changes as they saw fit. Today, Sunday Afternoons remains true to its roots, producing UV-blocking apparel with the best interests of the outdoor-minded consumer as their guide.
