5.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent value layer - features and quality are good

I've been looking for a good version of "grid fleece" to serve double duty: 1) a form-fitting, next to skin base layer for cold weather, high exertion activities - and 2) Something that can serve as a mid-layer for chilly mornings and evening around camp for warmer parts of the year. Although this Terramart ecolator fleece does not use "name brand" polartec power dry grid fleece, like patagonia does in it's capilene thermal (formerly cap4) and R1 products, it compares very well and looks top notch. First impressions: The flat-lock stitching on the seams should prevent any serious rubbing against the skin. Thumb loops are present, look durable, and are placed appropriately. Zipper is a genuine fairly lightweight YKK zipper, which is definitely top quality. The fabric "zipper pull" looks a bit wierd with the terramar rubber logo, and I'll probably replace it with a simple piece of cord. The garment (men's small) was lighter than I expected at ~8.5oz. This is excellent as I will be taking it on more 3-season trips as a mid-layer. I would call this roughly equivalent to a 100wt. standard fleece, maybe a tiny bit warmer, but it might be more breathable and regulate temps better. The zipper could be a bit longer/deeper for better venting. The cut overall is excellent, a bit slim and athletic overall. Underarm cut is really good (not baggy). Sleeves are just the right length for me. I ordered a small and it fits great - not super skin tight, but not loose either. Length is about right, it extends 2-3" below my waist-line. I'm 5'10", ~135lb, 36" chest. Comparing this to a genuine military grid fleece (ECWCS gen3, Level 2 - which uses polartec brand power dry grid fleece), each grid on this terramar is almost twice as large, and the fit on the terramar is slightly more athletic and less boxy/loose than on the military small-reg. This terramar will work better as a base layer, while still being able to layer over a t-shirt. The evergreen color is very nice, although I thought it might be a bit more dark, like a true hunter green. It still looks sharp, though. The next one I will buy will hopefully be a full zip version of this with a hood. Hopefully STP will get some in! Overall, a GREAT value for a good quality grid-fleece!

Bought this as a sweat shirt type top layer, but I think it will be very versatile and could be worn as a four seasons sweat shirt. It is a nice soft material, not bulky and nice color. Even though it is a men's size, I am a female and sometimes buy men's sizes in shirts like this because the length is longer and covers my bum so I can wear with leggings and I get good coverage over front and back side.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Good alternative to Patagonia R1

I got this fleece because I'm between SM-MD sizes in the common R1. Reviews here suggested that this runs small, so I thought I'd give the MD a try. I found that the MD Terramar fits me well - snug, but not too tight for my 39" chest. I like the thumb holes in the sleeves and the material seems to be good quality. My only complaint is that the neck piece comes up pretty high and puts some pressure on my adams apple, making it a bit uncomfortable. I can live with it for $25 and otherwise enjoy the top.

This is my second one of these shirts. I can feel the little channels holding in body heat the instant I put this shirt on. The shirt has good stretch for range of motion. I often wear one of these with an insulated or wind stopping vest when I have cold weather shopping or work trips to make. So there is no need for a coat to get from the car to the building. It's then much more comfortable indoors than if I had kept my coat on.
