  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Comfortable and sturdy in Yosemite!

My son and I just spent 5 days in these boots in the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite. We backpacked 45 miles with over 8,000' of elevation gain and these boots performed flawlessly. When we first tried them on they were so comfortable they felt like slippers . This had me concerned so we tried a short 3 mile hike in the foothills near home and had no issues. Our backpacks were about 40 pounds each and thanks to the sturdiness of the midsole rock plate our feet held up well against the many granite steps and boulders along our route. Grip is good and the stock footbed provided good comfort. We did not get a chance to test the water proof aspect of these boots. They are well worth the price and I would highly recommend them to both beginners and advanced hikers looking for comfortable and sturdy boot!
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Alright Shoe

I like the liteweight HiTecs with Vibram soles. The soles usually outlast the shoes. The fit is good. They are waterproof to-a-finite-point, though: slogging through melting snow, mud, & streams on a 4 hour hike, my feet were wet enough to wrinkle & blister. So, I suppose water-resistant would be a better word to describe them than waterproof. OK if just raining but not wading through wet conditions all day. The lacing on this shoe is weird too. It is nearly impossible to tighten the laces over the footbox/vamp without strangling your ankles! And the "padded tongue" compresses too easily to make a supportive fit on the ankles. I have to keep adjusting the laces as I walk to keep them tight enough to support but loose enough to allow proper circulation. I do not think I will buy this style again after I wear them out.

Size is appropriate. Pretty comfortable, although needs more padding in the insole. I don't like the fluorescent green striping--who wants that color on your hiking boots? Still, it's a good buy for the price if you don't need much padding in the insole. I returned them, as I found a better fitting pair on STP.

boots are wellpadded, flexible , form fitting and handsome. I wear then everywhere.

About Hi-Tec
