Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Good basic hoodie

I'm a big Icebreaker fan because I like the quality of the wool they use and because I find that the fit is good for my athletic build. I picked this up hoodie in the "trail" color recently to use as a basic casual layering piece. So far I've been quite satisfied with it. The fabric is medium weight with a looped terry-like interior face that seems to add a little insulation and a soft feel. It's no where near as thick as my Carhartt or Arborwear hoodies but that wasn't really the point. The style is chill and understated with just a hint of orange on the inside of the collar and near the right hand pocket. It's great for wearing with jeans or khakis.

I bought a large which is my usual size in their tops. For reference I'm 6' 180# with long arms. The cut is on the roomy side for Icebreaker as opposed to their typical trim fitting style but it certainly isn't a big boxy piece, just right for casual wear. I washed it in warm water and dried it on extra low heat before I wore it out and I found that it washed well without shrinking or becoming disfigured. So the quality appears to be in line with other Icebreaker pieces that I have.

Overall I think this is a good hoodie for casual in-town wear. It's probably not ideal for use as a performance layer under a shell for skiing or mountaineering because the fit isn't as technical as most of those pieces. And it's not going to be a go-to piece for chilly morning runs either. But if you're looking for a light merino layer to wear around town then you really can't go wrong here.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Perfect fit & beautiful

My husband has one, it's beautifully made, typical Icebreaker high quality so I just had to have one too.

This hoodie is soo light and comfortable. The feel of the fabric is amazingly soft. I really love it. Fit is true to size.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Weird cut, not Icebreaker quality

The fit is weird. Parts are baggy (around the waist), parts are tight (around the shoulders). And no, I don't have Schwarzenegger's physique. The quality of the wool is rather average, and it doesn't have the same degree of breathability as the other Icebreaker sweaters (too cold, too hot). To be honest, with the new logo it looks like a knockoff.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Too thin

I bought this exact item in a different color last year from STP, and it's awesome. Nice and thick, well made, very warm and a nice casual fit. I like it so much, I decided to order another one in a different color. As soon as I pulled it out of the package, it was clear from the weight that some material had been removed. Where my old rover has a nice, thick terry cushion to it, and feels thicker than its stated weight, this thing is thin and flat. It resembles the old sweatshirt in name only. I'd be much more inclined to call this a hooded shirt than a sweatshirt, and I definitely wouldn't consider it midweight.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Good, lightweight hoodie

I'm 5'11, 160 lbs and a med. fits me well and is trim through the shoulders and arms and again at the waist. Held its shape/size through 1 wash and I was able to dry it on very low/ gentle dryer cycle without a problem, since it dries quickly. This hoodie isn't really good to stop a steady breeze but is great to wear over a t-shirt on a cool night
