4.0 out of 5 stars. So much better in person

Wow, this picture makes this coat look seriously lame. In person, the quality and attention to detail is easy to see. The insulation is unbelievably lightweight and feels like a cloud. I don't have any problems with no zipper pockets, personally I don't want to be messing with zippers when I have gloves on. For those paranoid types worried about losing things, there are two internal pockets. One of the pockets has a fancy headphone hole- you know, if you're into that kinda thing. The hood does a great job of containing my massive mop of hair and not sliding off the back of my head. I have yet to test it in cold weather, but have every confidence I will be warmer than my enemies in hell. Lastly, fit-wise I find it to be a little looser than I would have expected. I am 5"2" 125lbs (think Hilary Duff) and the small coat leaves plenty of room to layer a hoodie underneath.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Nice Jacket but no pocket zippers

I ordered a few different brands of jackets to try. Looking for something warm for New England weather. This was going to be the winner until I realized there are no pocket zippers. I walk in the woods a lot and usually keep my keys or cell phone in the pocket. I can't have a coat without zippers. There is a zippered pocket near the chest, which would probably work, and also one on the inside. I don't think I will keeping this coat only for that reason

Other than that. I liked the coat. I ordered a medium and it fit perfectly. I am 5'4" and weight 140 lbs. I didn't get a chance to wear it in the cold, so I don't know how warm it is. It does feel pretty warm though.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Nice jacket and warm

I really like the jacket and it fits nicely. Felt true to size. One thing that I wish was, different was the hand warmer pockets do not have zippers and so you can't use them to store gloves or other small items like Chapstick.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
