Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Light, comfortable and easy to walk on (weekend warrior)

Has a nice bend to it and good traction, makes it easy to hike a bike. It is lighweight and comfortable and has simple way of tucking away your laces. The cleats are nicely embedded as well - I can barely feel them when walking on concrete or asphalt. But yet easy to clip in and out with. I like this pair over my 510's and Shimano MT33. It may not be as efficient as the more race oriented MTB shoes out there but I purchased it for the weekend adventures where I may have to be walking on for a while while still giving me the efficiency of being clipped in.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Poor sizing
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Biker Scott from Up State NY on Sunday, January 31, 2016
I ordered these shoes based on the recommendation that bike shoes should fit tighter than regular hiking or walking shoes.I normally wear a 9-9.5 shoe in wide. These shoes were a 43 which converts to US 9.5. The shoes were so narrow i could not even get my foot in them! It would help if STP would mention ( shoes run wide-shoes run very narrow-ect...) to save all of the returns.. I don't know its just a thought!
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Cool Shoe; sized VERY small

I liked these shoes a lot. They were exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a bike shoe that I could wear to the gym that looked more like a sneaker than a bike shoe. I was really bummed when they arrived and I tried them on. They were ridiculously small. I ordered a size 44 because I have 2 other pairs of cycling shoes that are both size 44 (one being Pearl Izumi). The pair of size 44 shoes that arrived were so tight. I could barely get my foot in the shoe, and there is no way I'd ever be able to ride in them.
I actually went to a local bike shop and looked for shoes after this. They told me that Pearl Izumis have been running small in recent years, so prior experience with Pearl Izumi is not a great indicator of what size you'll need with a new Pearl Izumi shoe. There wasn't anything in stock that was larger than a 44, so I had to return the shoes and go seek a different pair elsewhere.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. MTB shoe

I wanted an SPD shoe I could also hike out in if need be, so a more aggressive tread pattern and recessed cleats fit the bill. Out of the box the shoe feels a little narrow and small. I'd order a size up if on the fence. Very light and tongue pocket for laces keep them out of chainring. Stiffener underfoot should make for more efficient pedaling and less foot fatigue than hiking shoes and don't seem too stiff for walking. Pads - not covers- replace cleats if you want to use on standard pedals. Time will tell how well these hold up.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. beware sizing!

I normally wear a 44 (US size 11) or 45 (US size 11.5). The 45 was way too small. The 46 (US size 12) is too small also. Never would have worn a 47 (US size 13-14) in my life!

This seems like a nice enough shoe for commuting or casual riding and would be a fantastic value at this price but it is difficult to fit without trying on first!

About Pearl Izumi

Before Kinji Shimizu created the first Pearl Izumi cycling apparel, he spent nearly seven days a week on his bike delivering 90 pounds of clothes to customers. He frequently pedaled 38 miles a day. Years later, after his son received a special Italian-made cycling jersey, Kinji was inspired to start creating his own using the best fabrics he could find. The result soon evolved into the Pearl Izumi brand. In the five decades since, the company Kinji founded has continued working hard to make the best gear possible for dedicated athletes and weekend warriors. From incredibly lightweight Pearl Izumi shoes to sleek, comfortable Pearl Izumi running apparel, few other brands have the same relentless drive toward innovation as Pearl Izumi.
