2.0 out of 5 stars. Disappointing fit and featuresReviewed by Davey Crockett from Tennessee, California on Thursday, March 10, 2016Prefacing to say, the eVent 3-layer fabric is amazing. Light, packable, breathable, and if anything like my other eVent waterproof gear, will be the apex of both waterproof and breathable. The waterproof qualities I did not test, because I'm returning the jacket for the following reasons...
The Tornado roll front closure is OK, but a tiny bit of a hassle. Add 3 oz and give me a zipper anytime.
Fit: the XL fit my 40", typically M or L chest, with enough room for a thin base layer and slim tapered Spyder pullover. Fine. Surprisingly the length was what I'd also expect to find on a size M or L. What didn't quite fit the bill was the elastic around the wrists. Very loose, and i don't have small wrists.
Also, a number of items in the description that I found nowhere on the jacket or in the package.
(1) Laminated stretch hood with internal volume adjustment--found no adjustment mechanism
(2) Internal stretch drawcord at waist for a snug fit--nope, just elastic
(3) Includes mesh stuff sack with drawcord closure--again, no such thing included -
4.0 out of 5 stars. Montane Spektr Smock eVent JacketVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Flagstaff, AZ on Monday, November 2, 2015I am 5' 11", 180 lbs and bought the XL. I usually wear L in everything else, but this jacket has a very athletic cut, so the XL allows me to wear my baselayer and a midlayer underneath, but nothing else. I'm OK with that.
It also has that apparent tornado closure system which I am not a fan of, but I get around it by just leaving the bottom two clips closed at all times and buttoning up the third when it's coming down hard. The fact that it's a pullover also is not a bad thing because I can pull it on and off just as fast as a normal full-zipper jacket.
All in all, I'm happy with it and will sacrifice the tornado closure system in return for the full 3-layer eVent material of the jacket, which is just great in terms of breathability and waterproofness. I cannot comment on the durability yet because I haven't had the chance to put it through the grinder, but I figure it will do just fine.
