It is just metal rubbing against the plastic. Wheel bearings are really cheap. The brake is useless, it is way to hard for little hands. The seat has very small adjustment range. The only thing this bike has going for it is style.

Bought this as a birthday gift for my third son--wished I'd bought it for my oldest. The cheapo version I got him barely made it through two kids. The joovy seems to be sturdy, and my husband had it put together before I even realized it was out of the box. We can't wait to give it to him--it looks like a big boy bike, and he's gonna LOVE it!

He has knocked it over a few times and the paint and frame are great there are still no scratches on the bike. Great Product! Also nice that it has a break for bombing hills ;) not all balance bikes have that feature
