The other ones were just flat rubber, that stretched over boots, and popped off at odd times; or stretched into weird shapes so the metal wasn't under my foot. These stretch over boots, too; but because they're shaped to come up the sides of the boot, they stay on much better. Still hard to stretch them over the boots, but once on, they work great. The metal cleats grip on ice quite well. I still might tie a shoelace from the sides, over the top of my instep, to make sure they don't pop off, but so far, they've stayed on!!

We got about 100 feet and decided they were too difficult to go on a walk in. Perhaps they are good for walking on a frozen pond, but your feet wobble in these making ankle injury a concern.

These grippers are great. You get the security you need on a hard, packed, sometime icy trail. Also, good for around town. Could be a bit much for stores.
