In fact, they are holes. For sure, the worst 2nd I have ever received from STP in my 30 plus years of shopping with them. I only bought 1 pair of these, thank goodness. I will see if my daughter can run a hem around the top to repair. Hardly worth returning. They aren't cheap even discounted.

They comically say "Irregular" in large print on the bottom of the socks. Not exactly "barely perceptible". Otherwise they fit well and true to size. The first pair I wore got a hole in the big toe on the first day. So far the others have held up, hopefully that was a fluke. Smartwool makes great socks though in general.
