I took these on a hiking trail here in Colorado that was typical to western states; loose, rocky, technical…. They performed really well on loose steep sections and through the technical rocky sections. They did however, fall short of my expectations in the stiffness of the sole, insole. After a few hours on the trails my feet were getting sore. The sole has great flex, which is good for traction, but sharp rocks were too much for the sole.
I’ll get a lot of good use out of them, but will stick with my Merrells on long hikes.

These have the best ankle support and protection from rocky trails - they are heavy, but when the load and trail are rough these come through and keep me from turning an ankle or getting wet when going through muddy trails.
