  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. High Society FRC 179

I've had the 179s for a few seasons. Actual straight pull tape measure is 175.5 cm and the effective edge length is a long 1540 mm. Deep camber, 1 cm, and a longer radius of 21.7m. As the said, "full camber design for a predictable and traditional feel". About as old school and no-nonsense as it gets. Great all mountain inbounds ski for some one of my height and weight (6 ft/150 lbs) in all but the deepest and firmest conditions. The FRC 179 is very light (no metal), is full camber, has a moderate even flex, very little tip taper, a modest sidecut and a twinned tail. Its certainly no charger and it is not particularly damp, but it has a lot of "pop", initiates turns easily, carves large and short radius turns very well, and is very stable in the right conditions (i.e. not ice pick hard and rough). I ski mostly bumps and trees and the FRC 179's light weight and easy flex make forgiving and really fun in this type of terrain. Durability: The top sheets get chipped up easily and the tips get ground away by the other ski quickly (rails are just soft P-tex); but its a Never Summer construction, bases and cores are really durable. Summary: Great all mountain inbounds ski for lighter weight skiers in conditions which are not super firm/rough, and when the snow is less than 6 inches. I believe the ski's full deep camber, moderate flex and modest side cut make the ski really intuitive and predicable.
