Irritating BootReviewed by Anonymous from The Pacific Northwest on Thursday, January 7, 2016So, if you do not no this Columbia Sportswear products tend to be "small" by about 1/2 size compaired to other brands. If you plan accordingly then you can usually get a good product you can be happy with. However, footwear-wise this causes problems that get worse when Columbia doesn't offer wide-width options (at least I have never found them).
This boot is very well constructed. It looks sharp. I just got them today so I cannot talk about the "Omni Grip" tread, but they don't feel that warm for a winter boot.
The one thing I can talk about is the tongue and gussets which pretty much kill any chance at 4 or 5 stars. For the first three lace loops the tongue is sewn directly to the boot. There is no gusset. This makes the first three loops absolutely pointless. Now, remembering that Columbia products size a little small, you cannot open the boot any wider than the tongue will let you, which just isn't enough. As far as the upper tongue the gussets are almost not there. This makes the boot as close to a slip-on while still having laces you can get.
If you have wide feel like I do, then you are right on the edge. If your feet swell even the slightest bit you are done because there is just no way to loosen the boot past the narrow tongue short of cutting the tongue loose.
So, in short, Columbia saved 2 cents of material but made the boot fit only people who fit the "standard".
And that is sad to see in an otherwise worthy boot. Sorry people who have high arches or wide feet, you just have to settle.
