I have recently starting running, nothing major just a mile or two. But enough to need good solid shoes.
The shoe lace has a slight learning curve to it, to loosen you have to pull out on the circular disc, while holding the tongue down. To tighten you simply twist. -

I fixed them up with insoles because I didn't want to bother sending them back, and they have good cushioning. Soles are stiff enough to protect from rocks, but also don't flex around rocks and tend to throw me off balance. I love that the fabric is so densely woven that dried grass stickers don't penetrate. The lace lock system works for me. I slip shoes on and off without using it, as I do with laces.

The cord lace system is clever, but it does not tighten the laces evenly... so the fit was totally off. Plus some part of the shoe dug into the top of my foot and just plain hurt. I am usually a huge fan of Merrell's, but these had to be returned.

I figured that would be a problem once I actually wore them around and started hiking in them so I returned them and will be getting the same pair with normal laces.
