5.0 out of 5 stars. great urban rain jacket
Reviewed by Powpowpow from baltimore, MD on Wednesday, February 2, 2011
Got this for my often rainy commute: walking and waiting for the bus. I got a Large, even though I'd fit in a Medium, since I wanted to wear it over my TNF Nupse Down jacket. I weigh 135 and I'm 5'6", usually a women's 6-8. Without the down coat it's a little long in the sleeves, but i'd rather a little long, than too short. I was surprised at the visibility that I had when the hood was up--most jackets block peripheral vision. Also, the angel wing thing is nice and works well. It feels comfy and not at all sticky like most waterproof clothing, I hope it lasts for a very long time!

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Overall Good Purchase

I’ve only had this jacket for a few weeks, but my overall impression of it so far is that it is a great rain jacket for the price. It has good ventilation, repels rain well, and blocks a lot of wind for how lightweight it is. It fits pretty well throughout the arms and midsection, but the hood is much too small. The bridge at the top of the hood barely clears the top of my head, which defeats the purpose of the hood. I’m 5’7” 120 lbs and purchased the XS so I suggest sizing up if you want the hood to be functional.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Sizing didn't work, but looks nice

I ended up returning this because the bottom part was a bit narrow for my wife's hips, but it looks to be a really nice and well made jacket with some nice details. Would have gladly kept if the fit was better for her. Otherwise mostly true to size.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Not sure how I really feel

I purchased the minimalist jacket after my son let me borrow his for my trip to Ireland. I loved it!! It traveled well, kept me warm and dry on cool, rainy days, and was just about perfect in every other way. I couldn't wait to get one of my own. When it arrived I noticed the lining was not nylon like my son's but vinyl--strike 1. I purchased a size medium-I always wear small/medium and this jacket was too small. I had to return it for a size large--strike 2. There has not been a strike 3 so I am giving this rating a 4.

I bought this coat as a shell for skiing and I love it! I went a size up, so I can put my down jacket underneath it. Keeps out water and is built well. The red is nice and bright, which makes it fun to wear too!

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
