5.0 out of 5 stars. Classic Leather BootsReviewed by Anonymous from New Hampshire on Sunday, November 12, 2017Here is my take after a couple of months of ownership. First reaction was wow, very heavy. Like someone said, it's a cow stitched to a brick. I read enough reviews to know that you need to commit to a process, break them in, and don't pass judgment too early. They felt pretty good out of the box, but then after a month I had a few hot spots. With consistent oiling and efforts to soften the leather, they have adapted to my foot, and now I am a convert. I have taken them on some mid-level hikes (3.5 hours, rock scrambles), and the support they provide is really unbelievable. It doesn't matter what the reviews of lighter weight hikers say in terms of support, they can't compare to this. The impact protection you get particularly on descents is like nothing I've felt in any other boot. You feel like there is a firm, yet somehow forgiving barrier between your foot and the rocks underneath. It's the payoff for the weight. Without the weight of the shoe, I don't think that level of impact support would be there. If you are looking for a trail runner or a lightweight hiker, this is not the boot for you.
Be aware, the boots are hot on the foot, so keep that in mind as you plan your hikes. -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Heavy DutyVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Alabama on Monday, October 23, 2017These boots seem to be heavy duty and are comfortable even though they are stiff. I have only had them a couple of weeks, so I really won't know how good they are until about a year from now.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Quality!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Tennessee on Wednesday, May 31, 2017I haven't had these long enough to put any serious mileage on them, but so far they're very comfortable. They're built like tanks, the seams, materials and stitching are all very high quality. They're a little warm for summer wear, and of course a little heavier than a GTX type boot, but again extremely comfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars. excellentVerified Buyer Reviewed by Dan the Mountain Man from Montana on Tuesday, May 16, 2017Fit is true to size. Comfortable right out the box, typical break in time. Is water resistant, but not water proof. Recommend bees wax or silicon seal around welt stich.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Great bootVerified Buyer Reviewed by Matt from Knoxville on Wednesday, May 10, 2017I honestly have not had a long hikes with these boots . I've done two 3mile hikes and a 5 mile hike and the boots feel great. A little stiff and will take time to completely break in but they are boots that will last a lifetime. I would have preferred brown but with this price I couldn't pass up the black ones, definitely would buy them again

5.0 out of 5 stars. Boom proof BootVerified Buyer Reviewed by outdoor enthusiast from Nashville on Thursday, May 4, 2017I own these boots in black (11.5) and love them so I wanted another pair in brown. Unfortunately the sizing seemed quite large so I returned them.

1.0 out of 5 stars. Terrible boot.Reviewed by ncroclimber from Raleigh, nc on Sunday, April 30, 2017Randy Merrell would be rolling over in his grave it he knew what his boot had become. Decades ago this boot was what others tried to be, I wore mine in the Tetons for 10 years of guiding, They never let me down. The leather was impeccable and the fit was the same in both boots.
However, I can not say the same for these knock offs. The leather feels like plastic almost i.e. very cheap. The fit from left to right foot was shockingly different. Almost as if I had been shipped 2 different sizes. I checked, both were 11.5's. The boot has almost no rocker. It feels like you're walking on flat plywood. -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Like'emVerified Buyer Reviewed by OldGuyinPa from Pa on Thursday, April 27, 2017They're waterproof only in the way that the best boots were historically: a single piece of leather which is tanned to resist water. The welt will leak, although copious amounts of wax help. That welt will also practically eliminate the sole separation to which glued-together boots are so vulnerable. And that welt will make these boots re-sole able, though the original-style Vibram soles should last a good while. They aren't cushy boots, require some break-in, and you won't want to trail run in them. They are good under load, and great on rocky trail. If you like throwing your boots away every 6-12 mo., they aren't for you.
For me it's a sock liner, heavy sock, cinch 'em up tight and I'm ready to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Quality bootVerified Buyer Reviewed by LA/MB from L.A. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017This is the Merrell Italian boot you'll want. Other Merrell boots are made in China and other cheap labor countries. The only drawback is that it's fabric lined, not leather lined. Still, this boot is head and shoulders above most other commercial boots sold in this country.
