5.0 out of 5 stars. Fabulous jacket, Proven on the hill

I am a size 8P and bought a Medium. Wore it snowboarding this weekend (that's right, October 9th!) in powder, trees, and while it was snowing. I had on a dri-fit turtleneck (the thin kind) and was very toasty all day.

Here are the facts about the liner. It does not zip in to the coat. It has loops that you snap in to the shell. The loops are at the wrists and behind the neck. I love it this way!! The liner is absolutely perfect to wear on its own. It is shaped (not boxy), looks stylish, stays warm, and has both hand and interior pockets. I'll be wearing it alone when I'm not on the hills this winter. Also, because it does not zip in, I ended up liking it far better than any of the other 3-in-1 jackets I've had. You can unzip the shell and leave the liner zipped. It looks cool and keeps you warm.

The liner does have these extra long neoprene-like ends, but they tuck right in and don't show.

That leads me to my other concern when I was ordering this jacket: how does it keep snow from coming up the wrists? It's those neoprene-like sleeve ends on the liner. The shell has velcro on its sleeves which can tighten as well. But there is no elastic. However I wore it snowboarding this weekend and had no problems at all.

What I did have a problem with is the snow skirt. I have 30" hips and was wearing snow pants. The snow skirt kept riding up. All in all that doesn't overly matter because it is still elastic and still keeps the snow from overflowing into your pants. Just letting you know what it did.

Sleeve length? Yup, they're long. But that seems to be the case for every ski / snowboarding coat I've ever owned. I personally don't have a problem with it because I like being able to tuck my hands up into my sleeves when I'm not wearing gloves. And, when I'm wearing gloves it really doesn't matter how long the sleeves are.

It has a cell phone / iPod pocket inside the shell about halfway down the coat. It has a clear plastic front on it. If you're plugging your tunes into your helmet, you may need a longer cord. I didn't, but I'm short.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Harlow Parka

I got the medium coat to give me extra room to layer. I'm from the South and am going to Canada this January. Durring our "Polar Vortex" chill it worked better than any of my other coats- even my puffy feather Eddie Bauer coat. I am very happy with it.

Only complaint- the sleeves are a bit too long, and I usualy have the opposite problem. I'm still happy though. It's better too long than too short.
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. "Superior performance" is doubtful.

I have done business with Sierra for many years, with great satisfaction. As such, I must tell you that I was surprised, and certainly not happy about incurring a "processing fee" when I returned this jacket. It may deter me from any future purchases.
This jacket was disproportionate and simply did not fit well. It would not be very practical for any type of recreational activity.

I truly love this jacket--It is two in one. So if you get to warm you just remove the inner; or if you want you can wear the small inner as a jacket on it's own! Love it!! My second one!

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. awesome for snow sports

This is the best-quality snow gear I've ever worn. The range of arm & shoulder motion is amazing, without exposing my belly to the cold snow. It seems like every detail is thought of. (Granted, I haven't shopped for a jacket like this in years, but I didn't see anything like this when I was doing it a lot.) Sad for me, I am not keeping it because I have to have a jacket that also is a rain parka, and the cut on this is too high in the front for that. But *perfect* for being active in the snow!
