It protects my head from the sun while looking good. We have a lot of wind here, so I snap in the SunEscape protection panels and tie them together in a loose knot in the back. It hangs in the back while adding a slight bit of weight, which keeps the hat on my head even in the wind! When it gets cooler, I will tie the protection panels under my chin. It would have been nice to find this hat in a lighter color for the hot sunny months, but this does the job..

I like the versatility of having panels that snap discreetly into the hat and give extra protection to the cheeks and ears - not to mention wind protection! I have a small head and the hat can be adjusted w/ the drawstring bow as seen in the photo. I take away 1 star because of the black color, which I generally like, but which I think may make this hat very hot in the blazing sun. Haven't tested it at the beach yet so I can't speak to how well it ventilates. Great price on STP - I saw this on a popular travel clothing site and the price was much higher.
