5.0 out of 5 stars. Nice for day hikeing - does not leak

I use a Playpus 1-pint bottle sometimes, and was curious to see how this bottle works. Its sides are much more flexible than Platypus, that is, the Kompressor bottle material folds easily. It doesn't stretch. The top and bottom are rigid, so it will keep the bottle shape and stand up on a flat surface. As you drink out of the bottle using the bite valve, the bottle collapses as the volume is reduced. To keep the shape, you can always blow air back into the bottle. In the middle of a hike, I like the partially deflated bottle. It tucks easily under a pack strap or stuffs into a pocket.

The combination of the wide mouth twist top plus the bite valve is great. It just doesn't leak, so I can put everything in the main pack compartment and not worry about getting my phone, camera, or car keys wet.

I am looking forward to using the bag as an ice bag the next time my knee acts up. The wide mout will make it easy to load with ice cubes, the flexibility will let it drape over the sore area, and ... it will not leak! I know, I already said that.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Leaves a horrible plastic taste

I was super excited for this flask water bottle because it is collapsible and very light. I always take a water bottle with me when I travel on tours, so I thought this would be lighter to put in my purse as I walk around all day. Yes to the lightness, NO to the horrible plastic taste! OH god, I just couldn't do it--even with a thorough washing, this just infused water with a chemical, plasticky taste that is gag-inducing. Why had no other reviewer mentioned this? So disappointing.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. i was skeptical at first

The marmot water bottle is small and portable. I can take it with me anywhere, especially when I'm trying to save some space. When empty, the water bottle is very small and fits in many places. The water bottle can stand up by its self( I didn't think it would when I first saw the material). When the bottle has water, it's squishy and I would say fun to squeeze. Overall, I would recommend this product but I wld say its better to buy it on discount.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Simple and full proof

After reading the other review I immediately filled this admittedly small looking bottle and poured it into my Nalgene and it is actually a little over 16oz / 500ml. I will confess that I had my serious doubts upon initially looking at just how tiny it seems to be, but then the proof is in the pudding and facts don't lie. Not only is it super tiny, but the valve is extremely easy to lock on or off, and even when it is on you won't accidentally spill water while grasping it because it is released by biting down (also no need to tilt your head back, as it is airtight). Lastly, its base adds some great shape and will even keep the bottle standing upright when full. Well done Marmot and thank you STP!

Description says 16 oz but it actually holds maybe half that. Nice idea but much too small. Disappointing.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
