5.0 out of 5 stars. love Keens

I bought these for my husband because he really likes Keen, just like I do.

A thing to know about Keens: They do not offer support. So, if you want arch support, go to a walking store where you can get those kind of shoes. If you are looking for Keen because you like the look, then get a pair of Keen. They are an absolutely nice pair shoes. They are versatile so you can take them to the office, use them on the weekends with shorts.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Nice shoes, but somewhat odd

Keen makes nice shoes and I really want to like them, but I never do for some reason or another. These look nice and are mostly high quality shoes, but I don't like how the uppers are heavy and stiff, while the soles are thin and flexible.

I expected/wanted the uppers to be heavier then a typical canvas sneaker, but I was still surprised by the thickness of the leather. The nubuck leather is almost smooth leather and it feels like leather belt material. They're actually very nice, but the soles are so thin that it just seems odd to me. They have more structure than your usual flat-bottom sneaker and I think that requires a sole with more structure, also. They may loosen up over time, but I found them too stiff out of the box. They also arrived with a few scuffs and marks on them, but I find that acceptable with the deal I got from STP for them.

As I mentioned, the bottom soles were very thin and probably not much different from standard Converse All-Stars. They don't seem to have much, if any, support, either. I own all sorts of similar shoes and wouldn't have minded if the uppers were thinner and more flexible, or if the bottom soles had more structure and were stiffer, but I just don't think they go well together. It's like wearing a heavy shoe with bottoms that are literally worn out, except they're not. I've seen other brands do this also and I never like it.

As with most Keens, the width is very wide. I usually wear a size 11 in Keens, but found these a little long in that size. That didn't surprise me, since I often size down for flat-bottom sneakers, but a 10.5 wasn't available and I was afraid that a 10 would be too small.

Overall, these do use quality materials, but I don't care for the design mixing heavy uppers with lighter bottoms.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. No sole

These are OK, but they are constructed like a pair of Converse All-Stars, no cushion at all in the sole. They would be OK for an evening, but not for all day. I am returning them.

I have a standup desk and needed good looking shoes for work that supported my feet.
These shoes look and feel great. I might buy another pair in another color I love them so much.

About Keen

Keen shoes have been helping feet find adventure since 2003, and it all began with the signature KEEN.PROTECT toe bumper. It might seem strange to build a footwear company around a feature, but that iconic toe bumper is more than just a style add-on. It’s what allows Keen sandals to hit the trails and provide the best toe protection possible. In fact, Keen was one of the first footwear companies to make closed-toed hiking sandals. Over the years, the product selection has continued to grow and now includes Keen hiking boots, trail shoes, cycling shoes, socks, clothing and bags. The brand is also actively involved in land and water conservation projects in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
